Canada import duty calculator

Duty, China surtax, 5% GST and the courier or post fee on goods imported from China, by 8-digit Canadian tariff item or product name. Rates are from the CBSA Customs Tariff (2026, edition 2), updated 2026-10-12.

Enter an 8-digit Canadian tariff item or a product name.

Duty is charged on the value for duty: the price paid, without freight and insurance from the place the goods leave for Canada. Freight adds to your landed cost, not to the duty. Courier and post fees are those each carrier publishes, read 2026-10-20; see brokerage fees compared.

Surtaxes on goods from China

  • Listed steel and aluminum products from China pay a 25% surtax under the China Surtax Order (2024), in force since October 22, 2024. 182 tariff items on this site carry it.
  • Steel derivative goods from every country pay 25% under the Steel Derivative Goods Surtax Order, in force since December 26, 2025. 61 tariff items carry it.
  • Listed goods from any country except the United States pay 25% when they contain steel melted and poured, or aluminum smelted and cast, in China, since July 31, 2025.
  • Steel imported above Canada's quarterly tariff-rate quotas pays 50% instead. Canada does not stack its steel surtaxes: only one applies to a shipment.
  • The 100% surtax on Chinese electric vehicles was lifted on March 1, 2026. Up to 49,000 Chinese EVs a year now enter at the MFN rate of 6.1%.
